Jody Ciufo appointed as new Executive Director of the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association

Ottawa, ON, November 11, 2009 – The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jody Ciufo as its new Executive Director. The appointment, effective immediately, was unanimously approved by the Board.

President David Eddy says, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Ms Ciufo into the CHRA. With her extensive experience in national non-profits, I expect her to help us raise the profile of social and affordable housing in general and of our association in particular in this country. I would also like to acknowledge and commend Geoff Gillard´s leadership while in the Acting Executive Director role during the recruitment and selection process. We are grateful to him for this and for his continued support through this transition.”

“Having served non-profit and socially-oriented organizations throughout my career, I have a keen appreciation for the CHRA´s mission of service to the public good and to the need in our communities,” says Ms Ciufo. “I´m honoured to be selected and feel privileged to work with the Board and the professional team to build a strengthened, engaged membership and to attract greater and more diverse investments in the work of the association.”

Ms Ciufo holds a BA (Honours) in English Literature from Carleton University (1984) and an MBA from the University of Ottawa (1995) with emphasis on policy and marketing and has worked for the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers, Canadian Automobile Association, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Canadian Red Cross Society.

Ms Ciufo´s most recent position was as Executive Director of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the leading advocacy organization for research in the humanities and social sciences. Representing member universities and scholarly associations, Ms Ciufo was instrumental in securing a substantial multi-year peer-reviewed grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council; raising the profile of the Federation's policy and advocacy platform in the nation´s capital; presiding over the two largest Congresses of the Humanities and Social Sciences with approximately 9,000 delegates each; and initiating formal international linkages with other national associations.

CHRA is the national non-profit formed in 1968 that is the leading voice for affordable housing in Canada and a national network for housing providers, affordable housing promoters, government representatives, and individuals. CHRA believes housing is a fundamental human right for all Canadians and contributes to positive outcomes in health, education, the environment, economic competitiveness, and prosperity.
