END HOMELESSNESS: PUT HOUSING FIRST

The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association´s (CHRA) new Policy Statement on Homelessness declares that “Canada urgently needs a comprehensive national housing strategy that includes ending homelessness as a top priority.” The Policy Position on Homelessness will be released on Wednesday, April 15^th, 2009, at a full-day workshop affiliated with CHRA´s 41^st Annual Congress.

CHRA REACTS TO SOCIAL HOUSING SPENDING IN FEDERAL BUDGET
The Conservative government has released its budget, including an economic stimulus package which injects an additional 2.075 billion dollars into Canada´s affordable housing sector over two years. $1 billion will be spent on renovations and retrofits to social housing, which could include energy efficiency retrofits. Significantly, this funding is contingent on matching funding being provided by provinces and territories.
