Message from the President
"While this campaign may have gotten off to a low-key start with the writ dropped while many Canadians had their Sunday sleep-in, we in the affordable housing sector must remain wide awake for the next five weeks! We cannot afford to shuffle through this campaign- we have far too much to lose!
Two major programs- the Homelessness Partnering Strategy and RRAP- are set to expire this March, and we need to push hard now for their renewal. The affordable housing initiative will also expire at some point during the next government´s term, and we not only need it to be renewed but we need it to be expanded and enhanced. We need the next government to make a long-term commitment to work with us and other housing experts to develop a national housing strategy. The next government must also resource the implementation of that strategy with a long-term funding commitment that will at a minimum preserve today´s federal housing expenditure levels."
