Robert Hale Jr. Memorial Award
This award was established in 1990 as a memorial to Robert Hale Jr. to encourage emulation of the outstanding contribution he made to housing improvement in Canada.
Graham Emslie Award
This award, established in 1988 to honour Graham Emslie, a former CHRA president, honours those who have made an outstanding contribution to housing and community development.
International Award
This award was established in 1998 to highlight the involvement of CHRA and its members at the international level.

Robert Hale Jr. Memorial Award
PURPOSE:
To honour a person or an organization that has made an outstanding contribution to improvement in the habitability of existing housing through the development, enhancement, improvement and/or implementation of rehabilitation or maintenance and occupancy standards.
HISTORY:
This award was established in 1990 as a memorial to Robert Hale Jr., to encourage emulation of the outstanding contribution he made to housing improvement in Canada.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Each nominee must have made an outstanding contribution leading to improvement of the existing housing stock and achievement of the goal of a decent home for all Canadians. Nominees need not necessarily be members of CHRA.
APPLICATION:
Nominations must be made by a member of CHRA and must include:
- nominee’s name, address, present position, organization or affiliation, and telephone number;
- aspect of the field of rehabilitation or maintenance and occupancy on which the nomination is based;
- concise statement of the nominee’s contribution toward “the goal of a decent home for all Canadians”;
- statement of the nominee’s actions, initiatives, projects or policies demonstrating the nominee’s contributions (please list in chronological order if more than one);
- list of professional affiliations;
- recommendations of other professionals acknowledging the contribution made by the nominee; and
- nominator’s name, address, present position, organization or affiliation, and telephone number.
PLEASE NOTE:
For the selected candidate, CHRA will request archival photos, news clipping and videos to use in its awards presentation.
SELECTION:
Recommendations will be made by the Awards Committee and final selection will be made by the CHRA Board of Directors.
DEADLINE:
Nominations must be received by CHRA by January 31, 2013.

Graham Emslie Award
PURPOSE:
To recognize an individual or an organization that has made an outstanding contribution in housing and community development.
HISTORY:
The award was established in 1988 to honour Graham Emslie, a former CHRA president.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Each nominee must have demonstrated an outstanding contribution in the field of housing and community development. Awards will be made on the basis of national contributions or for specific local achievements. Both CHRA members and non-members are eligible.
APPLICATION:
Nominations must be made by a member of CHRA and must include:
- Nominee’s name, address and telephone number; and
- A concise statement of the nominee’s contributions to the field of housing and community development.
PLEASE NOTE:
For the selected candidate, CHRA will request archival photos, news clipping and videos to use in its awards presentation.
SELECTION:

International Award
PURPOSE:
To outline the importance of CHRA’s international involvement by recognizing a person or an organization that has made an outstanding contribution towards international understanding and has contributed significantly to the exchange of international experience.
HISTORY:
The award was established in 1998 to highlight the involvement of CHRA and its members at the international level.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Each nominee must have direct involvement with the affordable housing and community development field and have made an outstanding contribution to international understanding and professional exchanges in this area. Nominees need not necessarily be members of CHRA.
APPLICATION:
Nominations must be made by a member of CHRA and must include:
- Nominee’s name, address and telephone number; and
- A concise statement of the nominee’s contributions to the international field (exchange, technical assistance, seminars, conferences, awards).
PLEASE NOTE:
For the selected candidate, CHRA will request archival photos, news clipping and videos to use in its awards presentation.
SELECTION:
Recommendations will be made by the Awards Committee and final selection will be made by the CHRA Board of Directors.
